Scales of War
A small village located in the northern part of the Brown Hills, Hillwatch is primarily populated by shepherds and cattleherds. A small gnome population resides on the outskirts of town. Though the gnomes aren’t particularly welcome in town, they remain a part of the community because the villagers believe they are somehow responsible for keeping sheep safe from the monsters that lurk in the hills.
The hamlet’s only inn, a small establishment called The Musgrave Arms, was originally founded by Sir Reginald Musgrave, a minor knight of the Elsir Vale who harbored a fondness for the verse of the long-dead poet known only as Nyx. Fragments of her poetry adorn the walls of The Musgrave Arms; by long-standing custom, the date of Nyx’s birth (February 1) is a day of celebration at the inn, with drinks at half price and villagers singing lengthy passages of Nyx’s poetry at the top of their lungs.
The current innkeeper, Tobias Gregson, took over the management of the inn after its previous owner, a retired gnome adventurer, was murdered by a drunken necromancer on Nix’s birthday, forcing the gnome’s family to leave under mysterious circumstances.
